In telling her story, Jessie Close says that she had to break from the "Yankee" mentality of stoicism in order to deal effectively with her bipolar disorder. In fact, she went to Grand Central Station with her sister and son for a public service announcement, wearing white t-shirts with the words "bipolar" and "schizophrenia" which bore witness to their illnesses.
