The Value of Early Intervention

Close said that her behavior was considered part of her "wild one" persona, and that the resources available today were not available when she was 19. She went through "barrels of husbands, cars, etc." without realizing she was suffering from a mental illness. She wasn't diagnosed until she was 47, when she started a life change, including going on medication and stopping drinking. She's 10 years sober this month.

"Early intervention would have been fantastic," she said.
