Caring for family members

Martha Monfried's sister has attempted suicide five times and is now at Western State Hospital trying to control her depression and other mental illnesses, after attempting to jump off the 520 bridge on New Year's Day in 2010.

Monfried says that only 5% of families visit their relatives at the Western State Hospital, and says families have to reach out.

But despite visitng her sister and trying to care for her, Monfried says that it's not without a lot of frustration. Her sister doesn't recognize her own mental illness, and treatment is difficult since she doesn't stay on her medications.
