Overcoming violence

Patrick Ciminera had addictions to alcohol and methamphetamines before getting help, but that realization came at a steep cost. One night he "lost all connection to reality" and beat an elderly man with an iron. When the man cried out for Jesus, Ciminera recalled his missionary training and stopped his tirade. He called police and then was later caught running down the middle of the street away from the home of the elderly man.

Ciminera spent time in treatment and detention facilities and slowly worked his way through his mental illness and substance dependencies. Now, Ciminera helps others through peer counseling. At Sound Health, he helps those seeking treatment by providing shelter and even social activities like Mariners games.
